Biblical Education, Society and Justice for America?

Guest essay by David Lane

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi won this year’s Oscar Award for best foreign language film for his work, The Salesman.

Mr. Farhadi chose not to attend the ceremony but had a statement read on his behalf. “I’m sorry I’m not with you tonight. My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations whom have been disrespected by the inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the US. Dividing the world into the ‘us’ and ‘our enemies’ categories creates fear. A deceitful justification for aggression and war. These wars prevent democracy and human rights in countries which have themselves been victims of aggression. Filmmakers can turn their cameras to capture shared human qualities and break stereotypes of various nationalities and religions. They create empathy between us and others. An empathy which we need today more than ever.”

Iranian irony at its thickest.

As Mike Huckabee tweeted, “Celebs applauded lecture on human rights from Iranian whose country oppresses women, kill gays and want to have genocide against Jews.”

Drugs, sex, instability, and rootlessness forge ahead in epidemic proportions in Hollywood. Godless secularism has taken a terrible toll as it has been exalted to deity, becoming a secular truth, a secular political truth, a secular economic truth, and a secular religious truth. All institutions must ascribe to its values. Hollywood has become characterized by public obscenities, decadence, narcissism, hypocrisy, rampant drug use, adultery, abortion, lawlessness and the promotion of the homosexual agenda. All who oppose Hollywood values are shunned and met with the loss of job, loss of position, and forfeiture of career.

Meryl Streep threw a similar tantrum against President Trump at the Golden Globe Awards last month, advertising that foreigners and the press are, ”the most vilified segments of American society right now”.

In response to Streep, Piers Morgan noted that the cameras then “panned out to hundreds of the richest, most privileged people in American society sitting in the audience in their $10,000 tuxedos and $20,000 dresses, loudly cheering this acknowledgment of their dreadful victimhood.”

Hollywood, Main Stream Media, MoveOn.org, Black Lives Matter, George Soros, Women’s March on Washington, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) have become allies, fomenting rebellion in America.

The American Founders believed the glory of a nation lies in its righteousness and not in its wealth or military power. Just try convincing Tinseltown’s role-players that liberty depends on virtue and virtue depends on upon Jesus.

Tragically Hollywood and the secularist-embracing public education system have tutored America’s children for the last two to three generations. Together, they advance that idea that what Christians believe is garbage and offer up large doses of revisionist history regarding America’s Christian founding and history.

Jewish intellectual and scholar Will Herberg wrote: “The schools were intended to form Christian men, Christian citizens, and Christian ministers, not as a by-product but directly. They were instruments of the Church, which was, at least in the beginning, virtually coterminous with the community. Education was an enterprise undertaken primarily in the interest of religion …”

As Abraham Lincoln once stated: “A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved—I do not expect the house to fall—but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other.”

Let’s decide if America is a pagan or Christian nation and get on with it.

The Antidote

  1. Reestablish prayer in America’s churches, led by the senior pastor, is one of the keys to the resurrection of America.
  2. Can you imagine what a difference it would make if Christians ran for local office at all levels across our country—city council, county commissioner, school board, or mayor? Evangelical and Pro-Life Catholic Christians need to get involved and take a stand for biblical values and morals in the public square.*

The good news is that the Church is alive. Gideons and Rahabs are beginning to stand.

*NPI would add education of all Christians by all the churches to restore the once common American understanding of the priesthood of all believers and the heritage of American Biblical wisdom ready to apply to every subject in life—taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Thus, all of Christian life always and self-consciously promotes the Great Commission and Christ’s Kingdom.—ed.
